What is a base plan and a supplemental plan?

Base plan means your annual multi-trip coverage. It provides coverage for an unlimited number of trips outside your province or territory of residence, as long as each individual trip does not exceed the allowed number of consecutive days outside Canada or your province of residence as indicated in your policy. You do not need to advise us of exact trip dates, however proof of departure from your province or territory of residence is required should a claim occur.

The Supplemental Plan includes the Base Plan, but also provides coverage for a longer, single trip outside of Canada or your province of residence, that is not permitted under the base plan. You are required to provide a departure and a return date for your trip, and coverage is only available up to the maximum number of days allowed under your province or territory's health insurance plan.
